Located on the Nile River, just north of Luxor, sit two of the best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt. The sacred city of Abydos is home to the temple of Seti 1st. The Hathor Temple in Dendera is one of the most colorful temples in Egypt, with an intricately detailed ceiling and one of the most awe-inspiring hypostyle halls that we saw in Egypt. From Luxor, you can visit Dendera and Abydos on a day trip with Sequoia Travel. It’s a long day, but if you want to see two spectacular temples, this is well worth your time.
Pick up from your Hotel in Luxor by your personal Egyptologist Tour Guide then by air-conditioned minibus to Dendera Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Hathor- cow-headed woman and known as the Goddess of Love. This temple dates back to 125 B.C and it is unique because the roof is still intact and visitors can admire the beautiful ceiling which depicts the hours of the day and night as well as the journey of the sun, moon and the stars across the sky. One of its ceilings is decorated with a plaster cast of the signs of the zodiac. Not only that but this temple has the only relief which represented Queen Cleopatra and her son Caesarian. Continue to Abydos which was the head of the God Osiris- the God of the Underworld and part of his body was buried there according to the legend of ancient Egyptians, in Abydos, you will visit the famous Temple of King Seti I – the founder of Abydos Temple which was completed by his son King Ramses II. The beauty of this Temple almost feels like an apology and dedication to the following Gods Osiris, Isis, Horus, Amun Ra, Mut, and Khonsu. After this, return to Luxor by your transport.
